All about Java Fern

Java Fern is one of the popular plants in aqua-scaping hobby. It features its unique shape, hard leathery leave texture, ease for propagation and easy care.

It doesn’t require strict water parameters, so it is one of the best choice for aquarium beginners.

Originated from South East Asia, this plant appear to grow on rocks, along the waterlines of streams and waterfalls. It can grow whilst both fully submerged or partially submerged, so it is also a good choice for terrarium or paludariums.

Java Fern has rhizomes which do not like to be buried and it can be easily attached to a driftwood or rocks, making it really easy to pop straight into your tank. It’s is an extremely hardy plant and really doesn’t need any special conditions to help it grow. It doesn’t require high light, good substrate or high nutrients, and that's why it is good for beginners.

Propagation is easy- if you notice that some black tiny spots appear on the back of the Java fern leaves, good news! your plants is propagating new baby ferns. These black circles are where the new plantlets will sprout from. But if black spots aren’t developing into new plants, it could be a sign of nitrogen deficiency; other spots may indicate burns, so turn your lights down.
